Sophie Beer (née Blackhall-Cain) is an award-winning and -losing illustrator living in Brisbane. She is also mindful of her lack of quirky, pithy opening sentences in her bio.
She completed a dual degree in Law and Creative Industries with distinction at Queensland University of Technology before pursuing freelance illustration, much to the bafflement of her parents
Sophie adores creating bright, fun designs with generous helpings of narrative and is particularly interested in editorial and children’s illustration. Revelling in colour, shape and texture, she lives by one simple rule: art should never be boring.
Here is the part of Sophie's bio where she tries to come across as charming and relatable, so please humour her: When she's not illustrating, she's usually found drinking frankly dangerous amounts of tea, obnoxiously quoting Simpsons reruns, mooning over Joanna Newsom’s lyrics, and indulging in her other passion, literature.
Winner of the 2016 SCBWI Penguin/Random House Portfolio award
